Lake Natron Camp, Tanzania

Guide Trainer & Science Content Creator
I worked on-site at Lake Natron Camp in Tanzania, as a Guide Trainer, helping local guides strengthen their wildlife interpretation and storytelling using practical tools and science-based content. Lake Natron is an extreme soda lake in northern Tanzania’s Gregory Rift, sitting at the base of the active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai, and it becomes a critical breeding site for millions of flamingos because its highly alkaline waters deter most predators.
The goal was to support guides who were highly motivated but had limited access to formal training, and to build resources they could continue using long after my contract ended. This role combined research, education design, and content creation.
What I did
-
Strengthened guide knowledge of local ecology and wildlife
-
Improved structure and confidence in guide storytelling
-
Created customized, location-specific training tools that can be used for future guides and ongoing reference
-
Produced visual content for camp storytelling and social media
Why This Matters for Camps & Travel Brands
Well-trained guides create better guest experiences. When guides understand the science and feel confident telling the story, guests leave with a deeper appreciation of the place and its wildlife. For Lake Natron Camp, this meant supporting lear, consistent interpretation across guides while acquiring high quality visual content that supports camp storytelling.
